Permanent exhibitions of The Csángó Ethnographical Museum in Zăbala

Traditional Folk Art from Zabola/Zăbala

In a house built at the beginning of the 20th century visitors can discover an exhibition of pictures exposing the most remarkable buildings and historical monuments of Zăbala. A smaller room hosts the most valuable collection of the Museum presenting tiles of open fireplaces from the 16-19th centuries.
In the main hall our guests can admire local traditional costumes and mementos from WWI (objects, photographs).
Finally the visitors can enter a room that represents the “clean room” and the interior of the local farmer families’ houses from the beginning of the 20th century.

Traditional Folk Art of Hungarians from Moldavia

The collection of photographs and maps introduces the settlement structures of the Moldavian Hungarian villages and their traditional architecture. On the first floor visitors can see the workshop, living room, and earthenware products of a potter’s family from Gorzafalva (Oituz), the bedroom of an old woman from Pusztina (Pustiana), and the so called “clean room” (representational living room) of a house from Lészped (Lespezi).
The second-floor Gallery presents the “course of life” of Csángó-Hungarians of Moldavia, their religious lives from birth to death, their folk religion, printed and handwritten books of prayer and books of songs in the Hungarian language, and their festive costumes and traditional textiles.
