The MAMŰ-story began in Târgu Mureş 35 years ago. In the respective period, the Marosvásárhelyi Workshop (MAMŰ – named by Vilmos Ágoston philosopher, writer) played a determinin role in the town’s alternative art scene. From 1978 to 1983/84, the workshop’s members performed several natural interventions, different kind of actions, and significant experiments in order to revolutionise traditional art genres, and by these displayed a vibrant intellectual atmosphere and progressive artistic activities. A large number of artists linked to this group, emigrated from Romania during the 80s. Many of them were founding member of the fine arts society named ”MA(születő) MŰ(vek) - MAMŰ” established in Budaörs in 1991, as well as Hungarian-born artists and theoreticians. The re-establishment act 22-years-ago could be interpreted as the continuation of the former MAMŰ-story (due to the same name, mentality and a certain personal continuity) and in the same time it’s a beginning of a new chapter, as well. The Society meant and still does such a platform focusing on the support of the contemporary art tendencies, to preserve the diversity of artistic expressions, opening towards the related fields of art and to develop and maintain international artistic dialogues. Since 1991, the headcount of the society has increased progressively; the immigrated and the Hungarian-born artists are equally important to the group, even those, who live in Western European countries; art critics, and experimental composers, too.

The apropos of the Time-dependence is the 35-years anniversary of MAMŰ. By involving nearly 70 artists, this travelling show is able to present a wider cross-section of the various artistic practises intersected at MAMŰ. The key notions (time and dependence) of the pre-defined exhibition concept refer to the remembering, analytic and evaluative characteristics of anniversaries on one hand, while on the other hand, the junction of them functioned as an appeal. The exhibition material was composed from imprints of individual approaches which reflect on, and fit into the thematic framework. Among the exhibited artworks we can find present and past (personal / collective experiences or events) reflections, creations interpreted as future-visions, as well as those dealing with the themes as the processes in time, the space and time perception, or with the particular mixture of notions, such as time, dependence, or connection. Approaches mentioned above can be detected either in the visualisation of themes, in compositional solutions, or in the creative method and process.
