160 Years of Hungarian Press in Háromszék County

The Székely National Museum and Székely Hírmondó, one of the county’s weekly newspapers celebrates the anniversary of 160 years of printed press in the region.

There will be displayed issues of newspapers and data about printing beginning from the end of the 19th century until today. One can also peruse a First Reader printed in 1849, the year of the revolution. The exhibition focuses on presenting a number of leading journalists and editors, some of them even sentenced to prison for their revolutionary ideas.

The opening ceremony will be held on 9 June 2009, at 7 pm. Our guests will be delighted by several programmes, such as a live performance in the garden evoking the duel of two editors of two competing newspapers, as well as the 160 year-old printing machine put into use again.

Children are kindly invited to come and try out different printing techniques.

The exhibition closes on 21 June 2009.
